But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV).

After The Lord rejected Saul as king over Israel, He sent Samuel to Bethlehem to the house of Jesse who had seven sons because one of them was to be anointed as king over Israel. Samuel went on The Lord’s mission not knowing which of Jesse’s son The Lord has chosen to be anointed as king over Israel. When Samuel arrived and saw Eliab, Jesse’s eldest son who apparently was tall and handsome he thought he must have been the one The Lord has chosen to become king over Israel. But The Lord spoke to Samuel saying, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.”

God don’t care how we look, how we dress, the type of car we drive, the house we live in, He don’t care about our outward appearance, He only looks at our hearts. You see, Eliab appeared to have the look suitable for a king but God knew that he didn’t have the heart suitable for a king.

David, Jesse’s youngest son and a shepherd of the family’s sheep was anointed king over Israel. He was God’s chosen one because God knew his heart and was certain he was fit to become Israel’s king. God describes David as a man after His own heart. After removing Saul, he (God) made David their king. God testified concerning him: “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” (Acts 13:22 NIV).

When we live a life pleasing to God, having the right thoughts in our hearts, the right attitude, and the right mindset, He will surprise us with abundant blessings.
