The 2011 track season was exciting and ultimately, another satisfactory one in my career. I enjoyed all my races and appreciated the uniqueness of each as well as the differences in each city I was blessed to participate in. However, I must point out that there were some that left a special impact in my mind.
With that said, I want to take the liberty of sharing my top five most memorable races…here we go:
5. The 60m at Millrose Games:
This was my first and only competition of the indoor season. After posting a winning time of 7.11 seconds, I was pleased with the results as it was actually .13 tenth of a second faster than I accomplished the previous year. Therefore, this race was not only a good opener but it also gave me a good indication of how my preparation was progressing.
4. 100m at Ostrava:
With approximately one month outside of the Jamaican national trials, the result of that race definitely boosted my confidence. In a magical moment, I racked up my fastest time ever at that distance (10.76 seconds), landed number 8th on the all-time 100m list and also earned the all-time best for the 100 yards (9.91 seconds). This race was simply a cloud nine experience!
3. Jamaica national trials:
Competing in Jamaica has always been a source of joy and excitement to me as the crowd is knowledgeable, warm and appreciative. As far as track & field crowds are concerned, it just does not get better than competing with Jamaicans in the stands! I was blessed to become national champion at both the 100m and the 200m thus cementing my spot in both events to the IAAF world championship held in Daegu, S. Korea.
2. 100m World Championship:
It was quite an experience competing at a major championship from lane 8. This posed a challenge as I left like I was running blind. I viewed this race as a test of character and in the end thanks to blessing, hard work and perseverance I was able to secure the silver medal.
1. 200m World Championship:
To win a gold medal at a global championships besting a great field of runners always leave one with a sense of fulfillment. To have finally done so after three previous attempts was doubly fulfilling. It was definitely the icing on the cake which comprised my 2011 season!
Until Next time,
